MELVIN Odoom has conquered the world of radio, before making it big on TV.
The broadcaster is now taking on his biggest challenge yet as part of the I’m A Celebrity 2024 line-up, with hopes of being crowned King of the Jungle.
Born on July 30, 1980, Melvin Odoom is a radio star and TV presenter.
He is the brother of actress and writer Yonah Odoom.
Mel is also an celebrity ambassador for The Prince’s Trust charity.
Due to his long career on the airwaves, he has also won multiple Sony Awards for his work in broadcasting.
King of the airwaves
Melvin hosts the mid-morning show on BBC Radio One alongside his pal Rickie Haywood-Williams and Charlie Hedges.
They also host the famous Live Lounge together.
Prior to that, the trio presented Kiss FM’s Breakfast show every weekday morning.
It was here that they also worked with their fellow BBC Radio One colleague Clara Amfo.
They won Silver at the Sony Radio Awards within the category of Breakfast Show Award.
Melvin first met his co-host Rickie whilst studying at the University of Bedfordshire and they went onto form a lifelong working relationship.
TV fame
Melvin competed on the 2016 edition of Strictly Come Dancing.
He was partnered with Janette Manrara and the couple were the first to leave the competition.
But in a massive twist, Melvin went on to win the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special that same year.
Mel also took part in the celebrity version of Take Me Out and hosted the Xtra Factor with his good pal Rochelle Humes.
If I had to do anything (on I’m A Celebrity), like jumping out of the plane, I don’t think I’d mind that much, it’s the least thing I’d be a afraid of. It would be scary, but anything else, I hate insects, I hate bugs.

Melvin was the presenter of Channel 4’s Lego Masters and took part in the Celebrity Circle with his radio co-host and best mate Rickie.
Becoming a I’m A Celebrity star
In November 2024, Melvin joined the line-up of I’m A Celebrity.
Speaking about being on the show, he told his followers on Instagram he was “nervous and scared”.
Mel previously admitted that he’s not afraid of heights and is happy to jump out of planes.
He told The Sun that he’s incredibly “competitive” and will give every Bushtucker Trial a go – but said there is one he’ll have to pass on.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Melvin said: “I’m afraid of everything but heights.
“I don’t mind heights, years ago I went in a Red Bull aeroplane and they looped around, it was like G-force.
“If I had to do anything, like jumping out of the plane, I don’t think I’d mind that much, it’s the least thing I’d be a afraid of.
“It would be scary, but anything else, I hate insects, I hate bugs.”
The popular star said when it comes to trials, he’s a big “teamplayer” and wants to keep the peace.
