As it marks nearly two months since their last post, fans think the cryptic design of a backwards K, a C and an unidentifiable character has a significant meaning.

And, with Download Festival’s 2025 dates confirmed only four days ago, they’ve connected the dots and started a Reddit forum.

In the chatroom, titled “r/downloadfestival”, one shared a screenshot of the post, writing: “Oh my god it could be happening.”

Another noted that Thursday, a band closely connected to MCR, has a countdown on Instagram ending right around the same time as Download’s announcement.

The person suggested that if MCR is planning a tour, Thursday could potentially be a supporting act.

They also mentioned that some of the graphics could reference Paper Kingdom, a rumored title for MCR’s next album.

The user wrote: “Thursday, a band that are very close to MCR (The first album was recorded in the lead signers garage/basement), have a countdown that ends exactly at the same time as the Download announcement tomorrow on their Insta. (Edit: Actually 6pm, see below)

“If MCR are announcing a tour, it would not be unlikely that Thursday where the support.

“The graphics also hint at ‘Paper Kingdom’ the long rumoured name of the next MCR album. Complete hope and hype, but what if it’s an album announcement and a tour announcement that somehow includes download?

“One can hope. Although it’s also possible most of this is true but that the rumours of them dropping out are correct and this is what locked in the original announcement date for Download.”

But someone else poured cold water all over the speculation, writing: “Loving these comments lol. They are not doing Download.”

In 2001, MCR was formed by frontman Gerard Way and drummer Matt Pelissier.

Today, their lineup consists of Way, lead guitarist Ray Toro, rhythm guitarist Frank Iero and bassist Mikey Way.

Matt was asked to leave the band in 2004 by band manager Brian Schecter, but it remains unclear why.

While their fifth studio album hasn’t officially been announced, there’s strong speculation it’s on the way.

It comes just hours after American rockers Weezer appeared to confirm they’re headlining Download next year.

The band shared their tour dates in an announcement on Instagram today, and captioned the photo: “You think we’d go across the pond for one show only? No way!!

“Europe and UK, see you next summer for a bunch of headline shows and festivals. BRB, we’re already packing our bags.

“More to come later today ;)”
