Occasional Digest - a story for you

THE NINTENDO Switch is nearly eight years old and the company is preparing for the release of the console’s successor.

In March 2024, Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa announced that his company was working on a successor to the Switch and the internet exploded.

No details were given other than that the console was in development, with Furukawa claiming that a full announcement would be made before April 2025.

We are still waiting on that announcement from Nintendo, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t heard any news about the upcoming console.

The first game we heard that was in development for the Switch 2 was My Time at Evershine, a sequel to My Time at Portia, and My Time at Sandrock.

My Time at Evershine studio Pathea Games revealed that the game is being developed for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S alongside the Switch successor.

While Yooka-Replaylee developer Playtonic hasn’t officially revealed that the game is being made for the Switch 2, they have teased it in the latest trailer.

The remake of 2017’s Yooka-Laylee, created by the developers of Banjo-Kazooie, announced its release for multiple platforms in a new trailer.

The final screen of the trailer has logos for PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo, rather than specifying the console like for other platforms.

Playtonic has used this specific wording in all of the marketing followed by the eyes emoji.

While it doesn’t say Switch 2 specifically, people have seen it as a sign that it’s not being released for Nintendo’s current console.

A press release about Yooka-Replaylee from yesterday confirms the game is coming to “Nintendo platforms”.

This means it is likely launching for both the Nintendo Switch and whatever the Switch successor will be called.

We’re all waiting for more Switch 2 news, but for now this will have to do.

Switched over

This is the second game that has apparently been confirmed for a Switch 2 release and we’re sure this is just the tip of the iceberg.

We’re expecting a lot more announcements like these to be revealed before the console is officially revealed.

These are smaller games, and would possibly be able to be released on the Switch so these announcements don’t tell us much about the Switch 2’s hardware.

But we will be on the lookout for more reveals like these that will undoubtedly come out in the following months.
