Olympic champion Alex Yee secured his first world title after finishing third in the World Triathlon Championship Finals in Andalusia, Spain.

The Briton came into Sunday’s race 428 points ahead of Frenchman Leo Bergere, knowing a top-six finish would be enough to add the world title to his Paris crown.

Although a group of five men pulled away from Yee early in the cycling phase and gradually extended their advantage, the 26-year-old was well placed in the chasing group.

He started the run strongly to cement sixth place, and with none of the rest of the chasing group able to challenge him, he used his strength to move up to finish third on the day behind New Zealand’s Hayden Wilde and Bergere, and complete the double.
