The best-selling car of 2024 so far has been the classy Ford Puma, according to data from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

An impressive 38,944 units have been sold with that being over 1,300 more than the car in second place – the Kia Sportage.

But just like in 2023, the Puma stormed into first place and consistently sold across the year due to its affordability and fun driving dynamic.

The compact crossover has been praised for its versatility with it being a great family car or a flashy number to take for a spin.

It has even out sold the Ford Transit and Transit Custom vans this year, say Autocar.

The Ford Puma was first released in 2019 yet continues to be a firm favourite with Brits and across Europe.

The in-demand model, a 6-speed manual, is powered by a 125 horsepower mild hybrid powerplant.

But what makes it particular favourable to UK drivers is its easiness to use, style, and all-round fun factor.

The Kia Sportage took second place with 37,582 units sold as the Nissan Qashqai came in third place.

The Nissan model was first in 2022 before dropping a place each year since then.

One of the biggest movers from last year is the Nissan Juke which now sits in fourth with 28,727 units sold after it previously took eighth place in 2023.

Rounding out the top 10 is Volkswagen Golf, Hyundai Tucson, Audi A3, Volkswagen Polo, Tesla Model Y and finally the MG HS.

They all sold between 27,500 to 23,000 units in 2024.

Despite being ninth in the UK’s hottest cars of the year, the Tesla Model Y was actually the favourite car globally last year.

A staggering 1.22 million units were sold across the world leaving billionaire business mogul Elon Musk to work on upgrading the car even further.

The first major update to the motor since it launched in 2019 was announced back in August.

It is set to receive a major facelift as well as the upgrades with hastily-taken snaps showing a new full-width light bar embossed with the Tesla name running along the sleek black boot.
