A HUGE television star from the 80s has barely aged a day as she admitted that her ‘life could have been very different’.
It has been 32 years since she starred in Newhart on the US TV network, CBS alongside legendary comedy actor Bob Newhart.
Julia Duffy, 73, recently gave a rare interview for the ‘Pioneers of Television‘ documentary series.
She gained critical acclaim playing the role of Stephanie Vanderkellen in the sitcom, Newhart.
However, the actress looks like she has barely aged a day since her rise to stardom in the eighties.
She still sports her thick blonde bouffant style hair do and she appeared on television with a glam look.
Her part in the comedic show earned her seven Primetime Emmy Award nominations across her seven years on the show – which ended in 1990.
After she rose to prominence, she went on to star in films such as Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd and Intolerable Cruelty.
More recently, Julia also had regular recurring role in huge TV shows such as Shameless and HBO‘s Looking.
Now, the star has reflected on her own career through the years, as she paid tribute to some of the huge stars of today.
“At that time we didn’t have Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, had we had them, life might have been very different for me and other comedic actresses.
“Because they had figured it all out and it was still being figured out at that time.
Tina, 54, and Amy, 52, are worldwide stars thanks to their respective stints on Saturday Night Live.
They also had huge guest roles in films such as Mean Girls, Baby Mama, Sisters and Wine Country.
In the interview, Julia also couldn’t help but reflect on the character that made her famous.
She explained: “I would describe her as being very narcissistic because she never knew anything else.
“When I first came onto the show I was a guest star and I really was more of a plot device, as most guest stars are.
“It quickly became very clear that it was funny to have Bob encounter a very girly girl, who is very shallow and had lots of girl problems, and talked about herself all the time.
“It was a wonderful thing for him to react to.”
Her most recent film came in 2022, when she starred in Christmas with the Campbells alongside Pitch Perfect and Hairspray star Brittany Snow.
She also had a recurring role in the Apple TV+ series, Palm Royale, alongside Kristen Wiig, Ricky Martin, Alison Janney, Laura Dern, and Carol Burnett.
