Occasional Digest - a story for you

JD Vance made headlines on Friday after being spotted boarding the Trump campaign plane with an extra special furry friend.

Vance hit the campaign trail with his energetic, fun-loving sidekick Atlas, the Vance family’s German Shepherd.

“Can’t really tell in this video, but he was *not happy* about the wet metal stairs. He’s doing good on the plane though,” Vance posted on X.

“We’ve had two GSDs, and both of them do this thing where they find the one person who doesn’t like dogs and they suck up to them.”

The Ohio senator quote-Tweeted a video of him holding an umbrella in one hand and Atlas’ leash in another as the two walked up the stairs of the Trump campaign plane.

Atlas’ wholesome appearance comes as Harris and Walz branded their Republican opponents as “weird.”

The Democratic nominee called some of the Trump rhetoric “just plain weird.”

“[The] wild lies about my record and some of what he and his running mate are saying, it is just plain weird,” Harris said during a fundraiser, The Associated Press reported.

Taylor Van Kirk, a spokeswoman for Vance, took a dig at Harris as she talked about the “great time” Atlas had on the campaign trail

“Atlas had a great time on the campaign trail today, and unlike Kamala, enjoyed meeting the press on the plane!” Kirk told Fox News Digital.

The spokeswoman said there was a “malfunction” with the plane’s door, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing on the way from Milwaukee to Cincinnati.

“The pilot advised there was a malfunction with the door seal,” said Kirk.

“After declaring an emergency, Trump Force Two returned to Milwaukee.”

“As soon as the issue was resolved, the plane returned to its originally planned flight path back to Cincinnati.”

AMERICA’S BEST FRIEND

Although Vance’s dog has been all over X, Harris’ running mate’s dog has been all over the cover of Vogue.

On August 14, a digital cover of Vogue, titled Dogue, featured Walz’s labrador-retriever mix, Scout was dubbed “America’s Best Friend,” by the publication.

Recent Presidential pets

  • George W. Bush: During Bush’s presidency he owned a Scottish terrier named Miss Beazley Bush and another Scottish Terrier named Barney
  • Barack Obama: The former president promised his daughters they could own a dog when they moved into the White House, leading to the family adding Bo, a Portuguese Water Dog, to their family
  • Joe Biden: Obama’s successor, Donald Trump, didn’t own any pets, but Joe Biden does. The current president owns a German Shepherd named Commander, which the family got after their old German Shepherd, Champ, died

Walz bought Scout as a promise he made to his children, Vogue reported.

Harris’ running mate told his family if he won the 2016 election for Minnesota governor then the family could get a dog.

Seven months after winning, Walz announced the newest addition to his family during a press conference.

“After months of searching, planning, and dodging questions, the Governor is prepared to make good on a promise he made to his most demanding constituents: his kids,” a statement read.

A few days later he introduced Minnesota to Scout.

“I’m proud that Minnesota’s First Dog is a rescue dog, and I hope Scout—who has been a very good boy—serves as a reminder for Minnesotans that there are a lot of pups waiting to be adopted,” the governor said in 2017.

In the Vogue feature, Walz answered several questions about Scout and promoted rescuing dogs over buying.

Walz said, “[Scout] rescued us as much as we rescued him.”
