Occasional Digest - a story for you

STRAIGHTENERS are an essential hair tool in my books: it was the first hair gadget I bought, and I never travel anywhere without one.

GHD straighteners have always been my go-to, as I can both straighten and curl my hair, and the Platinum+ Styler has been reduced from £239 to £196.13 on Amazon.

But I have found a very similar – and more affordable – alternative that is £170 cheaper. Bargain!

Remington Shine Therapy Hair Straightener,
£24.97 (was £79.99), Amazon

Amazon has an impressive hair and beauty selection, which includes numerous beauty deals – and I do love beauty deal.

The Remington Shine Therapy Hair Straighteners are currently reduced in Amazon’s sale, which has taken the price from £79.99, down to £24.97 – a chunky saving of over £50.

The retailer giant has also reduced the price of several GHD hair tools and tongs, including the ghd Platinum+ Styler Hair Straighteners, which have been slashed from a staggering £239 to £196.13.

Despite those drastically different price points, the opportunity to save £171.76 by buying the Remington straighteners on offer instead of the discounted GHD styler is a no-brainer.

Could shopping beauty products get any better?

The Remington Shine Therapy straighteners are on my radar, not least because of the sale price, but the staggering 30,000 glowing reviews from Amazon shoppers.

I don’t think I’ve seen that many reviews on a product before. And I shop on Amazon a lot. So – what’s all the fuss about?

Admittedly, I have yet to try the Remington Shine Therapy Hair Straighteners, but I have trialled other hair tools from the brand, and have always been impressed with the specs.

Not only that, I noticed how easy my hair was to style – that’s not a small deal at this low price point.

This handy hair tool from Remington boast ceramic-coated plates, which are suitable for all hair types and evenly distribute the heat across the plates to target every hair strand that’s being styled.

To elevate this design further, Remington has infused the floating plates – which move with your hair so not to miss a section – with Moroccan argan oil and Vitamin E.

These ingredients nourish the hair and replenish the natural oils to avoid frazzled ends, and leave a silky, soft finish.

Some straighteners maintain one temperature throughout the styling process, such as GHD, but Remington’s straighteners feature adjustable heat settings, which is better suited for all hair types and lengths.

The nine heat settings range from 150 to 230 degrees, though it is generally recommended to keep the heat temperature at 180 degrees to work effectively, but clear of heat levels that cause extreme heat damage (thank goodness).

The straighteners claim to heat up in just 15 seconds, similar to the speedy start-up of GHD tools.

They also have a safety auto-shut off features that activates after 60 minutes.

That makes them similar to GHD, though with them the shut-off period is 30 minutes.

What sets the Remington straighteners out from the crowd is its shine-boosting features.

Yes, straighteners, as well as finishing oils, can achieve a sleek finish – but these straighteners claim to achieve 86% more gloss and shine without other products having to be applied.

However, it is always advised to apply a heat protective spray on the hair before styling and applying any heat to protect from heat damage.

GHD can do no wrong

£196.13 (was £239), Amazon

The GHD Platinum+ Styler Hair Straighteners are on sale, and also feature specific elements to increase the hairs shine, like Remington’s straighteners.

GHD straighteners never disappoint – in my opinion, the brand create some of the best hair straighteners. Indeed, if you want to shop around, head to our best GHD hair straighteners round-up.

These straighteners use ultra-zone technology, which predicts your hairs needs and ensures even heat distribution – a feature complimented by the floating plates.

The round barrel helps to glide through the hair and prevent any snagging on the hair strands when creating different styles.

It also features ceramic plates, which boast an ultra gloss coating for a glossy and frizz-free finish, similar to Remington.

The main difference is the GHD Platinum + straighteners have one heat setting, which makes them easy to use.

But if you can buy a similar pair of straighteners for less, yet achieve the same finish – who will know the difference? Only your bank balance, I guess.

Amazon shoppers with different hair types are head over heels for the Remington straighteners.

One happy customer gushed: “Well, these straighteners are brilliant! I couldn’t believe how quick they straightened my curly, unruly hair and how shiny it looked after!

“Love how quick they heat up and [how] you get to choose the heat settings. Worth every penny, [I’ve] not stopped using them.”

Another praised: “I am delighted with this hair straightener. It is easy to use, heats up quickly and leaves my hair with a beautiful shine.

“It has a low volume audible beep on reaching temperature and the temperature is easy to adjust.

“Several people have commented on how good my hair looks since I’ve been using this. It’s a winner and the price is excellent.”

A third shared: “This is amazing! Better than GHDs!”
