The man who has not yet been named was found dead at around 10.20am on Sunday in a rented mobile home where he was staying with members of his family at the Sea Sands holiday park in Carr Road, Felixstowe.

Suffolk Police confirmed today that a post mortem by a Home Office pathologist this morning had given his preliminary cause of death as a traumatic head injury.

A 28-year-old man from Felixstowe was arrested last night on suspicion of his murder.

The man is currently being quizzed at the Police Investigation Centre in Martlesham near Ipswich.

Detective Inspector Mark Hughes of Suffolk Police said: “Investigations into the man’s death continue.

“Detectives are making enquiries, looking into the circumstances of the altercation and identifying those in the area at the time that may be able to assist with the investigation.

“We would like to hear from anyone that might have witnessed an assault on the seafront or who might have any information that could help us in our enquiries.

“It is important to note that we believe this to be an isolated incident with no wider threat to members of the public.”

Police had been treating the death of the man as “unexplained” prior to the post mortem.

He is said to have been the only person reported injured in the assault.

Officers were called to the scene of the assault on Saturday and the discovery of the man’s body by the East of England Ambulance Service.

The mobile home where the man died remained cordoned off by Suffolk Police this evening with an officer in a patrol car parked beside it.

A resident of a nearby mobile home said he believed the man who died was a holidaymaker, possibly staying with his grandfather and others.

The man said: “They had only been here a couple of nights. It is terrible that this young lad lost his life.”

Another added: “This is a close knit community around here. People are quite upset and wondering how he could have died.”

Suffolk Sands is operated by Park Holidays which describes it on its website as “a small relaxing park” with a “stunning beach front location” in a “peaceful and tranquil setting”.

Mobile homes can be rented on the site in August from around £700 a week.

Suffolk Police want to hear from anyone who may have witnessed an altercation or who has any information about the man’s death.

This includes anyone with CCTV or video doorbell footage, taken in the area of Ranelagh Road and Undercliff Road West, Felixstowe, between 8.30pm and 9.20pm on Saturday.

Officers also want to hear from any motorists who may have been driving recorded anything on a dash camera.
