PLANS for passion-killing flats were given the green light — despite not having room for a double bed.
Councillors were concerned the tiny apartments would be too small to enable tenants to enjoy romps.
The flats are part of a new floor to be built on top of an existing block.
Councillor Naomi Bennett said no tenant would want to admit their “sexual life is completely without prospect”.
Yet despite only having room for a single bed, the flats at Edeva Court in Cambridge met minimum space requirements.
The city council had initially refused planning permission.
But it reversed its decision after an appeal by Avon Ground Rents Ltd which claimed smaller flats suited the needs of the local market.
Councillor Bennett raised concerns that two of the one-bedroom flats only had space for a single bed.
Bennett also claimed that building a new floor on top of an existing block of flats would be “abhorrent,” but recognised that it was allowed under planning laws.
Despite appreciating that the flats met the minimum space requirements, Councillor Martin Smart agreed that residents were “all being squeezed in”.
However, neither party could see much to protest in terms of planning affairs.
The decision on the application was unanimously approved by the planning committee when put to a vote.
