CO-OP shoppers are buzzing over a meal deal that’s too good to resist – two pizzas, a tub of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, and a free movie night for just £5.
Savvy shopper Leanne O’Brien took to Facebook to spill the beans on the summer deal which could land you everything you need for your next movie night for a fiver – but there’s a catch.
Leanne posted on Facebook: “With a Co-op member card, £5, 2x pizzas, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, and a movie on them.”
Co-op members get a free Amazon Prime movie when they bag this sweet combo deal.
Here’s how it works: Purchase two pizzas and one ice cream in-store for £5, then upload your receipt online, and an hour later, you’ll receive a voucher for a free Amazon movie.
But here’s the snag – you need to be a Co-op member to cash in on this deal.
Don’t fret though, signing up for membership only costs £1, and it comes with a bundle of benefits like special member prices and exclusive discounts.
Not to mention, members can convert their points into a share of the Co-op’s profits twice a year.
And here’s a juicy tip – the terms allow you to claim this offer multiple times.
But you will need a unique receipt each time.
How to claim this deal
For those ready to jump on this deal, here’s a step-by-step guide:
- Find Your Nearest Co-op: Make sure the store is offering the 2 pizzas and Ben & Jerry’s ice cream deal – you can check on their website.
- Grab Your Goodies: Head in-store and pick up the pizzas and ice cream.
- Flash Your Member Card: At checkout, scan your Co-op member card to unlock the £5 deal.
- Claim Your Movie: Keep your receipt and upload it to Co-op Movie. Within an hour, you’ll get an Amazon voucher for a free movie.
This deal comes after Co-op shoppers were raving about their dirt-cheap summer steals, including pizzas selling for as low as 54p for members.
One thrilled customer boasted on Facebook: “Just got this lot for just over a fiver in Co-op.”
With her membership, she nabbed 50p off any Pepsi product and £1 off her entire shop, plus some reduced-to-clear items.
Earlier this year, Co-op shook things up by ditching its old points system in favour of more immediate savings with exclusive member prices.
While the move left some shoppers “gobsmacked,” the supermarket insists it’s all about giving members better value for their money.
Members are no longer be rewarded with 2p for every £1 spent on the retailer’s own-brand goods.
Members were informed of the change via email.
It read: “By making changes to our membership benefits, we’re giving you more immediate value back.
“From 24 January, you’ll no longer earn rewards for purchasing Co-op products and services.
“Instead, as a valued member, you’ll always save more with exclusive Member Prices across Food, Insurance, Funeralcare and Legal Services, giving you savings on the things you need.”
Its member prices are different to other supermarket loyalty schemes because it has a fixed list of products to which member-only prices are applied.
Unlike at other supermarkets like Tesco, the member prices do not change every promotional period or flex on availability.
Co-op membership costs £1 and customers get personalised offers weekly depending on what they buy.
The retailer said its analysis showed that member prices were 90% better value than its previous rewards system.
Elsewhere, the major supermarket chain with over 2,500 branches has confirmed closures for one of its quaint, seaside town stores.
How Co-op’s membership scheme works
Co-op has ditched its points scheme in a massive shake-up to its membership club.
Co-op membership enabled shoppers to earn 2p for every £1 spent on own-brand products.
The rewards were stored in the member’s digital wallet a digital balance was tallied with your spending.
You could then spend the rewards you earn on most products in-store.
But this membership perk ended for good in January and Co-op now solely focuses on rewarding members with exclusive pricing.
Those who have money in the scheme will have until the end of this year to spend it.
Shoppers also get access to the new discounted Member Prices.
Co-op introduced its new “Members Price” offer in April last year.
The cheaper prices can save the average member up to £300 a year on their grocery bills, the supermarket said.
But those who aren’t members of the scheme won’t benefit from the lower costs.
