Samsung reveals first Android phone to receive important free upgrade with more to follow soon – download update now

THE latest Android upgrade has started rolling out to Samsung smartphones with some important security repairs.

Samsung has already been hard at work with its One UI 6.1.1 update.

But the firm routinely puts out new software to address any recently discovered flaws or stability issues too.

Sadly, there aren’t any fancy new features with this update – though rumour has it some may land soon.

Instead, the August security update comes with a total of 50 fixes.

The tech giant doesn’t go into much detail, but says in software notes that “the device is protected with improved security”.

On the stability and reliability front, Samsung says “device behavior has been improved”.

The first handset to receive the update is the Galaxy M55.

According to SamMobile, it has gone out to the international variant of the M55 first which has the model number SM-M556B.

Owners of other Samsung models should look out for the update coming their way soon.

Simply go to Settings > Software update > Download and install.

Elsewhere, Samsung has quietly upgraded one of its popular features used to send friends photos and videos.

Quick Share is the company’s very own file sharing tool which not only works between phones nearby but also uploading them onto the web.

Until now, you were limited to 5GB per day free but users have noticed that the allowance has been doubled to 10GB, allowing people to send much larger files than before.

This is especially useful for longer, high quality videos.

Quick Share for files locally via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi Direct require both devices to be Galaxy.

But one of the great things about Quick Share is the recipient of files shared online via a link don’t have to own a Galaxy phone to download them.
