Cult classic video game comeback is releasing before anyone thought with new release date

Occasional Digest - a story for you

DELAYS are so common within the gaming industry, we’ve got to the point where they are almost expected.

As Steam creator Gabe Newell so beautifully puts it: “Late is just a little while, suck is forever right?”, and gamers tend to agree.

Well, decade-long delays for games like Skull and Bones, Dead Island 2 and Duke Nukem Forever ended up with these releases being disappointing, so it isn’t always the case.

Some games have been much better experiences thanks to delays, and some of these aren’t even known about.

Many companies decide to withhold release dates from players until they are sure they can deliver, even if the game is delayed internally.

However, in very rare cases gaming release dates aren’t delayed but instead moved forward, and this is usually a good sign.

Most recently, Baldur’s Gate 3 was released almost a month sooner than expected, and received universal acclaim including Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2023.

This is why gamers were elated to find out that a cult-classic video game that is making its comeback will be released two weeks sooner than planned.

Lollipop Chainsaw tells the story of Juliet Starling, a cheerleader from a long line of zombie hunters.

When the zombie apocalypse threatens humanity once more, she takes up her chainsaw in order to take them down.

The original 2012 release was directed by Suda51 best known for his kooky action games like the No More Heroes series.

Fans were thrilled to see that Lollipop Chainsaw would be making a comeback on modern consoles, as it was originally released for the PS3 and Xbox 360.

Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP originally had a release date of September 26, 2024, but this has since been moved forward.

It will now launch two weeks earlier, on September 12, 2024, for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch and PC.

There are usually two reasons why game release dates are brought forward, and it is likely that a combination of these is why we’ll see Lollipop Chainsaw RePOP sooner than expected.

Firstly, the team has to be confident that the game will be ready in a quicker time frame, so that players aren’t disappointed by the early release.

Secondly, publishers often move the release date to separate it from other popular games launching around the same time.

In this instance, the new date will give Lollipop Chainsaw more breathing room from releases like The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom launching on September 26, and Epic Mickey: Rebrushed launching on September 24.

The price has also been listed as $44.99, which usually translates to £37.99.
