I tried Lush’s new face mask – it looks disgusting, but it’s a game changer for dry skin

Occasional Digest - a story for you

I’VE never really been a fan of face masks – I’ve always felt that they left my skin feeling dry and tight.

But that all changed after a skincare consultation at Lush introduced me to the most incredible face mask that left my face feeling soft and hydrated.

I was invited to visit the high street beauty’s biggest Scottish store on Glasgow’s Buchanan Street to experience one of their new in-store parties.

I brought my two girls Aimee and Sarahjane with me and it was super fun whilst also being one of the most indulgent pamper sessions I’ve ever experienced.

And part of the party involved the team at Lush trying to find the perfect face masks for us based on our skin types.

The staff were amazing – they sat down with us and asked us loads of questions about how we feel IN our skin and how we WANT our skin to actually feel.

Based on our answers, they gave us their best recommendation on the face mask that would give us the feel that we desired most.

I was immediately drawn to the silky smooth Rosy Cheeks mask – it looked so luscious and silky.

But they explained that this was best for cleansing skin that was prone to redness, and I was actually looking for something to help dry skin.

That’s when they brought out their new face mask called Skin Soothing Porridge.

It did not look appealing to me – it was yellowish in colour and had a really thick, bumpy consistency because it was full of oats.

True to the name, it looked like I had dipped my face into a bowl of porridge.

Lush’s VIP goody bag review

The team chuckled at my initial reaction to the mask, but they gently assured me that it works wonders – insisting that it’s sometimes their products that aren’t easy on the eye that have the most impact.

And they were not wrong.

The first time I used it on my face it was an absolute dream.

Although it wasn’t the easiest mask to put on, because of its unusual texture, it was well worth the effort.

The mask itself is made with oats, honeysuckle and honey which all work together to ease discomfort.

And then a blend of lavender, rose and chamomile blue is added for their sympathetic properties on the skin and the mind.

It is a simple blend that smells like honey and once it was on my face I could feel it just melt into my skin.

I relaxed for ten minutes while it soaked in and then just gently washed it away with lukewarm water.

The results were incredible – my previously dry skin was super soft and silky smooth and had never felt more hydrated.

It worked on even the toughest areas – which for me are around my eyebrows and my chin where the skin can sometimes be the driest.

DREAM MOISTURISER

I WAS super excited to take away a VIP goody bag after trying out one of Lush’s new in-store parties. It was full treats and samples, inclduing their Celestial moisturiser.

Now this is a moisturiser I could buy by the gallon – it is incredibly light, soft, fast-acting, and leaves my skin feeling incredible for days after one application.

My skin has never felt better than after applying Celestial. It is a soothing blend of vanilla water, and organic cocoa butter with over 5 per cent almond milk, making it ideal for anyone with sensitive, dry, tight, or inflamed skin.

It is packed with mild natural ingredients that help the skin barrier function and feel lovely again – it has 15 per cent almond oil, which mixed with almond milk and vanilla water soothes the complexion and supports the skin’s ability to care for itself.

As I said before, I tend to have slightly drier skin, so I usually need to apply moisturiser a couple of times a day to keep it looking soft.

But one layer of Celestial and my skin was as soft as satin – I’ve never found anything else that works as well for my face without causing it to break out.

And because it skinks in so quickly, you can feel the boost instantly – literally the moment it hits your skin. So you don’t have to worry about giving your face too much time to dry.

And because you only need to use a small bit at a time and much less frequently than other moisturisers, it can last for ages.

Celestial is my new favourite moisturiser – and I doubt I’ll be buying any other moisturisers for my face in the future! It’s a bestseller for a reason.

Once it’s all wiped away I tend to apply a thin layer of moisturiser to my face just to lock in all the hydration.

It’s been a complete game-changer for me, and I’ve already been back at Lush to pick more of it up!

If you have dry skin like me, then you need to have this in your home.

There are a few things to remember though if you decide to pick up this face mask.

It is made fresh and reaches you fresh so you can get the most benefit from the beautiful ingredients inside.

As a result, it needs to be stored in the fridge and used within 28 days.

After that point, you’ll need to throw it out.
