THE Urban Outfitters lamp is iconic – with people saving up for months to be able to afford one.
So it’s little wonder shoppers are flocking to The Range, after the store released an almost identical light for £110 less.
The store in Croydon took to TikTok to share a look at some of their new lighting offerings, as they wrote: “Take a look at our new lighting range available now in store!!!
“Perfect for any new student accommodation rooms.”
In the video they showed the colourful shelves packed with new lights, with people quick to spot the epic dupe.
The battery operated light features a round, yellow smiley face, with two black eyes and a wide grin on the front.
It’s also just £19.99, while the Urban Outfitters one will set you back a cool £129.99.
One feature you’ll only get with the Mr Maria X Smiley lamp is a dimming option – with six different brightness levels to choose from.
However, in the comments section on the TikTok video, impressed shoppers insisted they needed to race to their local Range in a bid to snap one of the budget lamps up.
“Me seeing this after spending years trying to justify the original urban outfitters smiley lamp,” one wrote.
“Need the laarge smiley omg,” another added.
“When I tell you I ran to Croydon… there was one left when I went!!!” a third commented.
“Omg, I’ll go this weekend!” someone else said.
But others demanded the lamp be added to The Range website, with one writing: “Why is the smiley face lamp not on the website?
“I’m going to end my existence!”
“Me too!” another wailed.
How to bag a bargain
SUN Savers Editor Lana Clements explains how to find a cut-price item and bag a bargain…
Sign up to loyalty schemes of the brands that you regularly shop with.
Big names regularly offer discounts or special lower prices for members, among other perks.
Sales are when you can pick up a real steal.
Retailers usually have periodic promotions that tie into payday at the end of the month or Bank Holiday weekends, so keep a lookout and shop when these deals are on.
Sign up to mailing lists and you’ll also be first to know of special offers. It can be worth following retailers on social media too.
When buying online, always do a search for money off codes or vouchers that you can use vouchercodes.co.uk and myvouchercodes.co.uk are just two sites that round up promotions by retailer.
Scanner apps are useful to have on your phone. Trolley.co.uk app has a scanner that you can use to compare prices on branded items when out shopping.
Bargain hunters can also use B&M’s scanner in the app to find discounts in-store before staff have marked them out.
And always check if you can get cashback before paying which in effect means you’ll get some of your money back or a discount on the item.
While the yellow smiley face lamp isn’t on The Range website, there a couple of other happy options – including a neon smiley face mirror for £14.99 and a smiley face sign for £11.99.
If you want something different, there are cute little pink and orange striped lamps for £11.99, a light-up dice for £19.99, and a large lamp with a blue base and striped white and black shade for £24.99.
“I need that pink lamp and the smiley face one, how nice!” someone else commented on the video.
