Three major motorways to close TODAY sparking travel chaos for millions – will your journey be affected?

DRIVERS have been warned they face sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic amid a string of closures on major motorways across the next FOUR days.

Punishing queues could be felt by motorists travelling along the M25, M4 and M1 as a myriad of diversions are to be put in place.

National Highways urged those travelling along the busy routes to be cautious of overnight closures from today until Wednesday July 24.

Diversions are set to come into force between 8pm and 6am for many of the works.

Tonight, M25 road travellers will find the both the clockwise and anti-clockwise Junction 27 link road to M11 Southbound Junction 6 closed due to for jacking and de-jacking.

The route will be cordoned off from 8.30pm until 5.30am.

Meanwhile, Junction 8 to Junction 9 clockwise is scheduled to be shut down for resurfacing work.

Diversion signs will help drivers navigate the closure – which runs from 10.30pm until 5.30am.

Meanwhile, on the M1, motorists are set to see a carriageway closure on Junction 18 southbound.

Another carriageway closure is present from Junction 31 to Junction 30 southbound for reconstruction works.

Yet more disruption is expected on Junction 35a and Junction 42 southbound from 9.15pm to 6am.

Motorists hitting the M4 have been warned to factor in diversion routes at Junction 4b eastbound to M25 Junction 15 both clockwise and anticlockwise.

This is down to upgrade works, which will remain in place from 10.30pm to 5.30am.

Monday

Potential travel chaos could be seen on the M25 next week too, as the clockwise and anti-clockwise link roads to M40 Northbound is planning carriageway closures.

Maintenance works will see alternative routes operational from 10pm until 6am.

Meanwhile, drivers behind the wheel from Junction 20 to Junction 21 clockwise are set to find several closures.

Lanes, slip roads and carriageways will be blocked off for resurfacing works from 10pm to 5.30am.

This also applies from Junction 28 to Junction 29 clockwise.

Tunnel works at Junction 27 to Junction 25 anti-clockwise are due to send motorists on diversions in the same hours.

More resurfacing works will be underway at Junction 8 to Junction 9 clockwise, with alternate routes in place again from 10pm to 5.30am.

The same can be expected for those travelling Junction 11 to Junction 10 anti-clockwise.

The final diversion on Monday will be encountered at the Junction 24 exit slip road clockwise for the NEAR Scheme.

On the M1, closures are operational from southbound Junction 28 to Junction 27 carriageway.

Elsewhere, the M4 is set to see diversions in place at the Junction 5 exit slip road eastbound for barrier repairs.

Tuesday

The major works are stretching into Tuesday across the major motorways.

Possible disruption may be felt on the link road both clockwise and anti-clockwise to M40 northbound as diversions are in place 10pm to 6am.

Meanwhile, lane, carriageway and slip road closures along Junction 20 to Junction 21 clockwise for resurfacing works will see drivers follow alternative routes from 10pm to 5.30am.

The same is planned from Junction 28 to Junction 29 clockwise, and Junction 27 to Junction 25 anti-clockwise.

Resurfacing works from Junction 8 to Junction 9 clockwise will see further diversions, again from 10pm to 5.30am.

Drivers have been warned not to be caught out by more repair works along Junction 11 to Junction 10 anti-clockwise.

Those travelling on the clockwise Junction 15 to M4 Westbound Junction 4b Link road will be diverted 10pm to 5am.

And, the NEAR scheme is also set to put diversions in place clockwise from Junction 23 to Junction 24.

Anyone making their way along the M1 on Tuesday can expect to be hit by closures from Junction 9 to Junction 7 southbound from 10pm to 5am.

Improvement works are also planned on the northbound and southbound Junction 17 to Junction 19.

The same will be found from Junction 28 to Junction 27 due to drainage works.

A slip road closure is also scheduled from Junction 32 to M18 northbound, starting at 8pm until 5am.

This also applies to the Junction 41 entry slip road southbound.

Meanwhile, from 10pm until 5am, there will be diversions on Junction 5 northbound.

The M4 has planned carriageway works from Junction 23 to Junction 22 Prince of Wales bridge eastbound, with an alternative route in place.

Wednesday

Drivers will be disappointed to hear yet more road works and closures are set to impact their journey on Wednesday.

On the M25 there will be diversions in place on the clockwise and anti-clockwise M40 northbound.

These are operational from 10pm until 6am.

Meanwhile, anyone travelling from Junction 20 to Junction 21 clockwise will be diverted from 10pm to 5.30am.

This also applies to Junction 28 to Junction 29 clockwise, and Junction 27 to Junction 25 anti-clockwise.

And, resurfacing works are planned along Junction 8 to Junction 9 clockwise from 10pm to 5.30am.

Repairs are due to see Junction 11 to Junction 10 anti-clockwise shut down at the same time.

The NEAR scheme is set to close the Junction 24 exit slip road clockwise.

Motorists will also fine the ERA bay scheme introduce temporary closures from 10pm to 5.30am along Junction 23 clockwise and Junction 24 exit slip road clockwise.

On the M1, northbound and southbound Junction 17 to Junction 19 see 24/7 lane closures due to improvement works.

Junction 28 southbound to Junction 27 and Junction 44 to Junction 36 northbound also have diversions operational for drainage works from 8.30pm to 6am.

Elsewhere, on the M4, motorists can expect to find the Junction 23 eastbound to Junction 22 Prince of Wales bridge closed again.

It comes after drivers were warned “only travel if absolutely necessary” on the M25 just weeks ago due to more closures.

The frequent diversions have come into place as £317 million plans to build a new gyratory bridge south of the Junction 10 roundabout by Summer 2025 steam ahead.

The structure will add extra lanes and boost safety while reducing congestion.
