Occasional Digest - a story for you

A MUM has urged Tesco shoppers to check their receipts, after hers earned her a freebie – saving a whopping £10.

A Facebook user took to a bargain group to share the freebie she got from Tesco and encouraged others to always check what’s on their receipt.

She bragged “it pays to always select receipt at Tesco, you never know what free offer would come your way”.

She was right – the mum was able to get a pack of Pampers nappies for free.

The popular brand costs around £10 normally.

She told other users to “search high and low” on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK group on Facebook.

People were quick to comment on the post, with one writing: “I got one today but for size 1 – size 3 so getting some and giving them to a family member.”

“If you can’t use the free stuff personally always get it anyway and throw them in the food bank trolley, especially stuff like nappies” another added.

“I never get anything like this” a third commented.

Supermarket shoppers are only just realising they can get free product vouchers at the till – and they’re getting huge savings.

Tesco is known for its Clubcard scheme, which allows customers to earn points that can be turned into vouchers.

You get one point for every £1 spent in-store and online and after scanning your app or card.

But some shoppers are only just discovering the supermarket giant is giving away free products vouchers for Clubcard holders on their receipts.

Loyalty customers can get personalised coupons at the till for targeted promotions, which can include free products.

Posting in the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, one shopper said: “Tesco giving away vouchers, roughly saved about £15!!”

They shared a picture alongside the post, showing three voucher freebies – one for £3.50 Lenor fabric condition (42 washes) another for £3 Fairy Max Power (640ml) washing up liquid and a third for £8 Always discreet boutique incontinence pants (eight pack).

What is the UK’s cheapest supermarket?

WE’RE all looking for ways to save on our supermarket shops. But which store should you go to if you’re on a strict budget?

According to Which?, who compare thousands of prices at the top eight UK supermarkets – Aldi, Asda, Lidl, Morrisons, Ocado, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Waitrose – every month, there’s one place that outweighs the rest in terms of being budget-friendly.

In April 2024, Aldi was at the top of the list, with Which? comparing 67 popular groceries costing an average of £112.90.

Lidl isn’t far behind, at £115.23, followed by Asda in third place with a bill of £126.98.

Tesco was next, at £128.17, while Sainsbury’s rounded out the top five with £131.02.
