Elsewhere in the men’s draw, British pair Marcus Willis and Jay Clarke fell to a 6-4 6-2 loss against Australian duo Max Purcell and Jordan Thompson.
Briton Luke Johnson and partner N.Sriram Balaji of India also went out following a 6-4 7-5 defeat against Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic of El Salvador and Croatia.
Three other all-British male pairings also exited in the first round.
Oliver Crawford and partner Kyle Edmund lost 7-5 7-6 (7-3) against French duo Fabien Reboul and Sadio Doumbia, while it was a straight-set loss for Liam Broady and Billy Harris against American pair Evan King and Chistopher Eubanks.
Dan Evans and Harry Searle put up more of a fight in their 6-3 3-6 6-3 loss to Mexican-French players Santiago Gonzalez and Edouard Roger-Vasselin.
In the women’s draw, Briton Olivia Nicholls and Slovak Tereza Mihalikova upset sixth seeded Brazilian-Dutch duo Demi Schuurs and Luisa Stefani 6-4 6-0.
Lily Miyazaki, who lost 6-0 6-0 to Daria Kasatkina in round two of the women’s singles earlier in the day, bounced back in the doubles alongside fellow Briton Emily Appleton to beat Chinese duo Zhu Lin and Wang Xiyu 3-6 6-2 7-6 (11-9).
But Britons Tara Moore and Sarah Beth Grey were beaten 6-1 6-2 by third seeds Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez of the US and Australia.
British partners Naiktha Bains and Amelia Rajecki were defeated 6-4 6-4 defeat by Hungarian-Ukrainian opponents Timea Babos and Nadiia Kichenok.
All-British pairing Freya Christie and Alicia Barnett lost 6-0 6-3 against Taiwanese-Belgian duo Hsieh Su-Wei and Elise Mertens, while Heather Watson and Belgian partner Greet Minnen went down 6-3 6-4 against the 14th seed Americans Sofia Kenin and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.
There was also a defeat for Harriet Dart and Maia Lumsden against Italian duo Sara Errani and Jasmine Paolini in three sets.
