A joking Redditor couldn’t help but make fun of the moniker her cousin had bestowed upon her baby.
SAY WHAT?
And the surprises kept coming, especially once she heard the pronunciation.
Redditor Notjimhawkins acknowledged that her family thinks she’s a bit “quirky,” so they might have been expecting some kind of shocking response – and she certainly delivered.
“Recently, my cousin gave birth to a baby girl and she shared photos on her Facebook page. She then sent that Facebook post to our family group chat,” she said.
“Her daughter’s name is Lylyt Yvyh Yryhl, read as ‘Lilith Eva Uriel,'” she continued.
The baby’s name had certainly taken her aback.
“I was laughing my a$$ off when I read it and she said she wanted her child to be ‘cool and unique’,” she said.
MADDENING MONICKER
And she did not keep her opinions to herself.
“I replied ‘r/tragedeigh‘ and she did not understand it until a younger member of the family explained what my response was,” she said.
Let’s just say that mom didn’t back down from defending her baby’s name.
“She then told me my name is shi**ier and my parents aren’t creative that’s why I have a ‘basic a**’ name – my parents were in the conversation too, by the way,” she said.
Our Redditor certainly owned her reaction.
“I know it’s a dick move. Yes, she deserves it. Yes, two wrongs do not make a right. Yes, I am petty,” she said.
BLAME GAME
Still, many people thought she had nothing to apologize for.
“That’s nearly impossible to read and decipher. Your cousin may be livid but you’re absolutely right,” said one Redditor
“No, her cousin was ‘lyvyd,'” another platform user joked in response.
Others were also feeling badly for the little one.
“I would probably just bluntly say ‘Sorry, my mother was an idiot,'” another wrote.
“She sounds like she was named after an eye exam chart,” commented a user.
“She literally found every way to pronounce a ‘y’ in a word and made sure to use each one so no one would know which to use when saying that name and only used the vowel that is a sometimes vowel,” another chimed in.
One user shared another unconventional name they had encountered.
“There is a girl named Jqlyn at my work. She is part way through getting it legally changed to Jacqueline,” said a user.
“The visible disgust when she has to explain that her mother was quirky and had to use her daughter as an accessory to flaunt that is very telling,” she continued.
“Most of these poor children seem to grow up resenting their parents.”
