Ministers would launch a “crackdown” on “disproportionate” demands by council pen-pushers to inject rocket fuel into the nighttime economy and halt hundreds of bar closures.

The review was already promised in the Tory manifesto but yesterday Kevin Hollinrake revealed it would be launched within 100 days of July 4, if his party wins.
The measures come following pressure from The Sun’s Save Our Sups campaign to back British pubs.
The Conservatives used the announcement to attack Labour’s record on nightlife in London and Wales — both areas controlled by Sir Keir Starmer’s party.
Me Hollinrake said: “The night-time economy is a vibrant sector that’s vital to our economy and our society as a whole.
“We’ve always supported our night-time economy, with business rates reliefs, economic support during the pandemic – but wherever Labour have been responsible for the sector, it’s suffered.
“We’ll continue to back our night-time economy, Labour would cripple it further with higher taxes and more burdensome regulation.”
It is estimated 1,200 boozers closed their doors for good last year with pressures from inflation and the cost of living to blame.
