Occasional Digest - a story for you

Van Gerwen ready to win

Reigning champ Michael van Gerwen has travelled to Gliwice, where the Poland Darts Masters and is confident he can prolong his title at this World Series of Darts tournament.

The Dutchman told the PDC website: “Of course I’m going to win, or I’d have stayed at home.

“I really enjoyed playing in Poland last year and I had a good result, so why can’t I do the same this year? Every tournament I compete in I want to win, and I need to make sure I’m focusing now.

Van Gerwen will face Karel Sedlacek who is one of five Tour Card holders from Eastern Europe.

The Mighty Mike added: ”I’ve got a tough first round game against Karel.

“The East Europe players are improving every time. I think it’s a really strong line-up here and I’m really looking forward to playing.”

What has Littler said?

Ahead of tonight clash Luke Littler speaks about his opponent Adam Gawlas who knocked him out of the 2023 UK Open last year.

The teen sensation said to the PDC’s official website :“It was going to be tough no matter who I played. I think it’s a really strong field of players, and I know what Adam is capable of.

“Since that UK Open dual last year however, Littler has since undergone a big change in his status within the sport of darts.

“The 17-year-old Englishman made it to the final of the World Darts Championship earlier this year, won the 2024 Premier League Darts in his debut campaign and has unleashed tremendous media hype for the sport not seen in a very long time, if ever before.

“As such, all eyes will once again be on the 17-year-old this Friday night as he makes the trip to Poland.

“The Premier League win was massive for me. I’ve got that under my belt now, but all my focus is on this weekend in Poland.

“It’s going to be another good experience for me; a different crowd, a different stage. I’m looking forward to it. I love playing in front of big crowds, so hopefully I can put on a show for them and get the win.”
