Last year some 1.9 million new cars were registered with the Ford Puma hitting the top spot – making it the first Ford to be the UK’s best-seller since the Fiesta’s 12-year run ended in 2020.

According to SMMT data, Ford have shipped 23,205 Pumas out of showrooms so far – with Autocar claiming its even outsold Transit and Transit Custom vans.

Having finished fourth in 2023, the Kia Sportage has climbed up the order as the second best-selling motor of the year in June, while the ever-popular Nissan Qashqai rounded off the top three.

The Qashqai was the best-seller in 2022 and finished in second place in 2023 – and is seemingly loved by Brits for its practicality.

It’s not all about SUVs in 2024, as the Audi A3 – coming in fourth place – proves with its compact yet roomy interior.

The A3 surprisingly outsold the VW Golf, which has hit 15,573 units in 2024 – 1,000 less than its German rival – to put in fifth-place.

However, Autocar suggests the evergreen hatchback might enjoy a small surge in sales in the second-half of the year thanks to its new facelift as well as a powerful GTI iteration.

Rounding off the top nine is the Nissan Juke, BMW 1 Series, MG HS and Volkswagen T-Roc – which saw its top down iteration discontinued at the start of the year.

And the ever-present Vauxhall Corsa is in tenth place – having previously finished as high as second to the Qashqai in 2022.

The Corsa was briefly the country’s cheapest EV when the Corsa Yes edition was released in April, although this has since been beaten by the Dacia.

Elsewhere, another major car brand is set to discontinue multiple models while hinting at a fresh focus on a brand new, first-of-its-kind range.
