The fictional Yorkshire village was dealt another sad loss last month when Ethan Anderson collapsed at home before dying later in hospital.
His death came hours after he was left injured in a hit-and-run, which viewers know was carried out by Ruby Fox-Miligan.
Ruby wanted to get revenge on Ethan after the solicitor had left her son Nicky for dead after crashing a car while under the influence.
Ethan knew who had targeted him, with the pair sharing a tense confrontation, but he failed to tell anyone else before he collapsed.
His sudden death sent shockwaves around Emmerdale village, and Ruby has been left in pieces over her actions in the lead up to his passing.
In upcoming episodes, Manpreet Sharma is surprised at herself as she confides in Ruby about partner Charles, Ethan’s bereft father.
Ruby is riddled with guilt and wants to help.
Later, Charles finds Ruby in the church and as they talk, Ruby tentatively reaches for his hand, and Charles allows her to comfort him.
Once back home at Mill Cottage, Ruby is desperate for a relationship with Nicky and vows to turn herself in, the weight of what she has done continuing to weigh down on her.
As she bursts into tears, Nicky can’t help but console her.
Caleb is dumbstruck when Ruby reveals she wants to turn herself in for the hit and run on Ethan.
He tries to convince her otherwise, but Ruby is determined.
Meanwhile, Charles stands over Ethan’s freshly dug grave, struggling to make sense of anything.
Visiting Woodbine, Ruby fears the worst as shell-shocked Charles reveals the coroner has established a cause of death for Ethan.
Is the hit-and-run to blame for Ethan’s death?
