The peplum’s most prominent fashion era was the 1980s, where it was widely worn with the skinniest of jeans.
Following this, the peplum rose in popularity again, in 2012, and was popping all over the runway during Fashion Week.
Peplum is a frill, ruffle pleat or voluminous detail added to the waist of an item, which puffs or flares out.
But now, it appears that the popular trend, which re-emerged in 2012 thanks to the likes of TOWIE stars including Amy Childs and Lucy Mecklenburgh, is back in stores for good – with H&M shoppers going wild.

One fashion fan, Susie Moy, who is from New York, took to social media to show off her H&M peplum finds.
Susie spotted not only a white, strappy peplum top, but also a denim-look, bandeau peplum top.
Thrilled at her finds, the savvy mum explained: “Millennials rejoice: the peplum top is officially back.”
She then claimed: “The best thing to return in.”
Peplum tops, blazers, and dresses are a great way to accentuate your body shape and create an hourglass figure.
They conceal any areas around your midriff that you may be conscious of, as well as add some character to the most simple look.
Whilst models including Naomi Campbell have previously worn the trend, Susie was thankful for the figure-hugging tops, as she beamed: “Perfect for my new mum figure.”
The TikTok clip, which was posted under the username @susieideally, has clearly left many open-mouthed, as it has quickly amassed 94,800 views.

But social media users were totally divided to see peplum tops back on shelves – whilst some were thrilled, others were not so keen.
One person said: “I mean this wholeheartedly… YES.”

What’s the deal with the peplum trend?
FASHION Editor, Clemmie Fieldsend told Fabulous her thoughts on the peplum trend.
She explained: “There’s no denying it, the peplum is back.
“A former relic from the noughties has returned to high street stores as well as the catwalk and on the waists of celebs.
“If like me you remember them from the 2000’s you’ll remember their signature look of scuba stiff fabric, a pencil skirt bottom with a pair of chunky platforms on feet and a beehive on heads.
“Think, the original cast of TOWIE.
“And prior to that they were the height of fashion post-World War ll with designer Christian Diors ‘New Look’ of a jacket with heavily cinched in waist that would give Kim Kardashian a run for her money, into full skirt.
“Thankfully, we’ve moved on from that.
“Now A-Listers like Emma Stone and Nicole Kidman are wearing them on the red carpet in more fluid fabrics and shapes.
“The big bonus of a peplum is that it begins at your waist and flares outwards, so there’s no need for construction style shapewear or to feel like you need to breathe in.
“It makes and enhances waists and creates a statement, even on the simplests of tops.
“So welcome back peplum, we’ve missed you.”
Meanwhile, another fashionista chimed in: “So flattering and pretty.”
To this, Susie replied and shared: “Agreed! Tops for the summer.”
But not everyone was as overjoyed to see the return of peplum tops.
