They showed a clip of their waterlogged outdoor space and said their daughter could no longer play outside.
Footage showed their patio tiles flooded with water, and their grass garden left looking muddy and boggy.
Taking to Reddit they asked for people’s help and said: “Neighbours’ patio ruined our garden plans.
“Little bit stuck on what to do with our garden for the upcoming summer as our daughter is itching to play outside.
“Our neighbour has installed a patio that runs all the water directly into our garden, this has caused our garden to become waterlogged and mossy.
“We’ve tried to contact the neighbour and company that did the patio but they said it’s not their fault.
“They’ve since been back to put a kickboard at the bottom of the fence but insist that no other works will be covered.”
They asked for advice after saying they felt they only had two options with how they could proceed.
The parent continued: “Report to the council but I could see this taking ages meaning the garden wouldn’t be suitable for a one year old in time for summer.
“Pay to have a two foot concrete fence panels and posts buried and stop the water coming to outside, not sure if this works?
“Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated thanks.”
One person suggested: “Well that’s rude. I would be building a little wall and let them deal with the consequences.
“Can’t walk out your back door? Should have installed drainage.”
Another person added: “Neighbours should have a french drain installed to stop the water spilling onto your property. You could have one installed but it’s not really fair on you because they caused the issue.”
The parent replied: “We are plan on adding a French drain as a safety measure ourselves. I don’t think it’s fair either but I can’t allow my daughter not play in the garden.
The Top Five Reasons Neighbours Squabble
One study by Compare the Market revealed the top reason British neighbour’s argue
- Broken fences – top of the board was broken fences and whose responsibility it was to fix it
- Parking: one of the leading drivers of neighbour disputes, with 54.1 per cent of people having issues with people parking in front of their house, parking bay or driveway
- Trees – complaints about a neighbour’s tree cracking your garden path was also common with nearly half of participants finding it frustrating
- Bin wars – outdoor bin etiquette continues to ignite the most furious debates between neighbours
- Nosy Neighbours – some people have their eyes and ears at the ready to have a peek causing problems for others
“I have spoke to neighbour about a month ago, they said they didn’t have any money to add drains but gave me the number of the company who installed the patio.
“I contacted them to let them know about the water and they refused blame but did come back and add a kickboard to the bottom of the fence which I don’t think will do anything.
“I told them I wasn’t happy with the outcome but haven’t heard back from either.”
A third person advised: “Sandbags as a temporary and cheaper measure.”
