A man has been arrested after a police officer was allegedly stabbed in the head in Sydney’s CBD.

Paramedics treated the officer for non-life threatening injuries at the scene before he was taken to St Vincents Hospital.

A man, aged 33, has been arrested and taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital for assessment.

Police have confirmed an operation at Elizabeth Street was underway and there was no ongoing threat to the public.

A second crime scene has been established at the intersection of Castlereagh and Park Streets.

One man who was in the area told the ABC he saw a “lot of cops” rush in and “hold the man down”.

“They just came, had him on the ground and held him there,” he said.

Police are expected to hold a press conference at 4pm about the incident.
