The squircle-shaped treats – similar to Skittles – were quietly axed in 2019 after 50 years.

Nestlé, which bought Rowntree’s in 1988, said they were not popular enough.

But now eagle-eyed shoppers have spotted a very similar treat on on shelves.

B&M are selling a dupe for the retro treat – called Fruit Blast.

One excited sweet fan wrote on Facebook: “Don’t know if these have ever been posted before, but if anyone is missing Tooty Frooties that used to be around years ago then these ones from B&M (Fruit Blast) are a really good fill in.”

With crunchy sugar shells on the outside and a squidgy inside, Tooty Frooties came in strawberry, lemon, lime, orange and blackcurrent flavour.

The B&M version appear to have similar flavours.

Fans rushed to the comments to give their opinion

One wrote: “You are a true hero for sharing this!

“I’m very passionate about the loss of Tooty Frooties.”

Another said: “I’ve just had these. Not too bad.

“A lot smaller than the originals so I found I ate them quickly! Different flavours too! Getting more tomorrow.”

A third added: “Loved Tooty Frooties. Got these ones in B&M.

“They are slightly smaller in size but the packet is bigger so you get more. Bargain! Love them.”

When Tooty Frooties were axed in 2019, a spokesperson said: “Sweet tastes and trends change over the years and Tooty Frooties have become much less popular in the decades since their launch.

“In 2019, people prefer the jelly and foamy sweets you find in Rowntree’s Randoms and that’s why we’ve decided to concentrate on new products under the Randoms brand.”

In 2020, Rowntree’s changed its legendary 139-year-old Fruit Pastilles recipe to go vegan.

Until then the sweet – launched in 1881 – included gelatine, derived from collagen from animal parts.

Maker Rowntree’s, which is owned by Nestlé, said the move followed requests by veggie fans.
