The cafe on Lower Heidelberg Road in Ivanhoe East, called Picket Fence, was shot at shortly before 6am on Sunday.

No one was injured and there was no one inside the cafe.

Sergeant Miller said it was unknown whether the shooting was targeted or what type of gun was used.

She said detectives thought there could potentially be multiple offenders.

“Ivanhoe East is generally a quiet area so a lot of the public were quite shocked to have something like this happen,” Sergeant Miller said.

“It’s quite a low and dangerous act, we are lucky that no one was injured.”

Police are appealing for CCTV and dashcam footage.
