A beauty brand is offering an affordable dupe to their designer counterpart.

Commenting under a post, an unnamed Reddit user revealed the makeup item they swear by that’s almost identical to a high-end alternative.
Answering the original poster’s question about product dupes, the social media user recommended the $5.97 L’Oreal Shiny Lip Stain, available from Amazon.
The Redditor explained that the “302 Be Oustanding [shade] is a way better dupe than the YSL Water Stain in 617 Dive in The Nude.”
While Yves Saint Laurent’s Water Stain has been discontinued, the brand offers a similar item.
The designer’s Vinyl Cream Lip Stain is currently available for $45 from Sephora.
In their comment, the Reddit user broke down the reasons why they prefer the L’Oreal option.
“YSL has a gross bitter taste and it smells like heavy cologne,” they explained.
“The L’Oreal smells faintly sweet and doesn’t taste like anything.”

The Reddit user also compared the color and consistency of the products.
“It’s also slightly thicker and this makes it last longer and build on itself better,” they explained.
The social media user went on to describe the two colors as identical.
According to the Redditor, there may be a reason behind the similar shades.
“They are owned by the same company as well,” they said.
They explained that they have owned both the products and have a clear favorite.
“I’ve had both and I am never buying YSL again,” they told their fellow Reddit users.
