A LOYAL dog found next to her dead owner has been adopted by a firefighter called to the scene.
James Trounson helped police and medics gain entry to the property.
There, he discovered eight-year-old terrier Martha shivering and forlorn beside the woman.
James — in a crew from Helston Community Fire Station in Cornwall called to the house in Breage — was touched by the dog’s sad look.
He asked if he could look after the hound and then adopted her after RSPCA checks.
James, a builder by trade, said: “She comes with me everywhere.
“We already have a collie called Merlin and we were looking for a mate for him.
“We took her home and gave her a good bath.”
He added: “She’s got a complete new life now.
“She sleeps on the bed at night with Millie the cat.”
