A family home west of Sydney has been the target of two shootings within the past two weeks, with police labelling it a case of “mistaken identity”.
Police were called to a home on Virginia Street in Blacktown just after 9pm on Saturday night following reports several shots had been fired into the house.
Five people were inside but no one was injured.
“We believe this is a targeted shooting,” Blacktown Police Area Command Detective Inspector Kylie Evans said.
Two weeks earlier, on April 13, the same home was the target of another shooting.
Again, residents were inside but no one was injured.
“Police believe this family is innocent and we believe this is a [case of] mistaken identity,” Inspector Evans said.
“This family are not known to us and they’re an innocent family.”
NSW Police have since seized a four-wheel drive they believe was connected to the shooting on April 27, after it was found abandoned about eight kilometres away on Seppelt Street, Eastern Creek.
Detectives said they were working to find the owner of the vehicle.
“Police believe this residence is being targeted through former occupants of the residence, nothing to do with this family,” Inspector Evans said.
