Occasional Digest - a story for you

Iran has appealed to the BRICS group of developing nations to assist in ending Israeli atrocities against the Palestinian people right away. Ali Bagheri Kani, Iran’s deputy foreign minister, made the statement during a meeting in Moscow on Thursday. The meeting included representatives from the BRIC countries and their counterparts, who gathered to discuss recent events in Middle East. Bagheri emphasized the importance of the role played by individual countries and international organizations in addressing the crisis caused by the Israel. He stressed that their actions and positions will be remembered in history.

Furthermore, Bagheri called on the BRICS countries to demonstrate their political and practical commitment to putting an end to attacks on civilians and infrastructure in the Gaza Strip. He urged them to provide immediate humanitarian assistance, including food, medication, and medical supplies, as well as facilitate the evacuation of occupying forces and the rehabilitation of the besieged area. Bagheri emphasized the need to focus on achieving a complete and permanent ceasefire. This would help alleviate the humanitarian disaster in Gaza, increase international humanitarian aid, and provide strong support to organizations like UNRWA. He stressed that mere statements and positions are insufficient, and concrete operational measures must be taken to ensure compliance with the international community’s demands.

The senior Iranian representative conveyed appreciation to South Africa for referring Israel to the International Court of Justice for the Gaza Strip massacre. He also urged the BRICS nations to fully support the legal proceedings and provide necessary legal solutions to address the violations. He emphasized, “The past 200 days of crime and aggression by Israel have demonstrated that the Palestinian people cannot be eradicated, and the people of Gaza have shown that it is the Palestinian child who triumphs over the Israeli bomb.”

Bagheri Kani highlighted that “the key to establishing stability and peace in the region from Lebanon to Iraq and the Red Sea is to halt the atrocities committed against the vulnerable and displaced people of Gaza.” Regarding the West’s attempt to use the right to self-defense as a pretext for Israel’s crimes against humanity, he stated, “This justification by the supporters of Israel is entirely invalid from a legal and international perspective.” Bagheri Kani also referenced the Israeli attack on the Iranian consulate in Damascus, along with the targeting of several military officials and personnel there.
