Occasional Digest - a story for you

BEYOND Paradise fans have slammed what they dubbed the “implausible” wedding outcome in the gripping season two show finale.

Viewers were quick to criticise the plotline which saw DI Humphrey Goodman (Kris Marshall) and Martha Lloyd (Sally Bretton) very nearly get married – just hours before the programme’s future was confirmed.

The duo shared a fostering journey in the Death In Paradise spin-off yet the lack of an I Do moment left swathes of show fans disappointed.

One was quick to rant on social media: “That was a disappointing end to series 2. Nothing has moved forward since the very first episode.”

A second put: “Fairly implausible wedding/no wedding scenario …”

A third then wrote: “The most romantic not-a-wedding ever.”

One surmised: “Much as I like the gentle drama of #BeyondParadise the whole set up on the last episode was a cringe and to get all that done on the day of the wedding is somewhat ridiculous.”

More Paradise

The BBC recently revealed the future of the series amid whopping ratings.

The second instalment hit screens back in March and has seen DI Goodman attempting to solve a crime on a steam train and an arson attack that was predicted by a physic.

The popular drama has now been recommissioned for a Christmas special to air later this year.

A third series which will come to BBC One and iPlayer at some point during 2025.

Director of BBD Drama Lindsay Salt explained: “Beyond Paradise has become such a huge hit with millions of viewers across the UK.

“It’s a show that is absolutely on a roll, and we’re beyond pleased to bring more fiendishly clever mysteries from the Shipton Abbott team to the BBC.”

Timeline of Death In Paradise Detectives

Death In Paradise started in 2011 and has welcomed four detectives so far to the island.

These are all of the actors who have played the lead detective in the hit BBC series so far:

Ben Miller as DI Richard Poole – Actor Ben played the first ever detective from seasons 1 to 2, and then returned as a guest star in the third and tenth series.

Kris Marshall as DI Humphrey Goodman. Next up My Family star took on the role for three years from series 3 to 6.

Ardal O’Hanlon as DI Jack Mooney. Father Ted star Ardal was a fan favourite and was the detective for three seasons from series 6 to 9.

Ralf Little as DI Neville Parker. The actor started in 2019 and is the longest-running star to have the detective role. He was on the show for four seasons from 9 to 13.

Tim Key, executive producer for Red Planet Pictures said: “I can promise that we’ll be making the viewers laugh, cry, laugh a bit more and then baffling them with a series of ingenious puzzles.”

He added: “There will also be a duck.”

Previously, show protagonist Kris has been forced to hit back about “scornful” criticism of the programme.

Meanwhile Barbara Flynn, who plays Anne Lloyd in the drama, was forced to apologise after letting slip a huge show spoiler.
