Many thought the wedding dress style was inappropriate, calling it “cheap” and shaming the thin material.
Redditor Pepapoppypippy consulted a forum for wedding attire advice.
“My best friend is getting married! Is this appropriate to wear to her black tie/red carpet wedding?” she asked.
The blonde shared a photo of herself sporting the spaghetti strap floor-length dress.
A second photo revealed the dress’ completely backless design.
Critics pointed out that the dress was great for special occasions, just not the one she was going to.
“You look great in it but you look like you are going to prom, not a black tie wedding,” said one commenter.
Others couldn’t help but agree that she needed to swap the dress out for something more elevated.
“For red carpet/black tie I honestly think you could go more fancy,” said another.
“The material and back makes it look more on the cheap side in my opinion.”
“Ya that’s the thing. The fit and the silhouette are fine in my opinion, it’s just the dress looks like it’s from Urban Planet or something,” agreed one viewer.
One fashion fan took up issue with the dress’ casual and thin material.
“It reminds me of a stretchy yoga pants material. Would you wear yoga pants to a wedding? I agree, a little more fancy/classy will suit better,” they said.
“I think you need to up the elegance level, this more prom like. Nicer fabric, no butt scrunch, a little less low back,” said a second.
“The length is appropriate for black tie but the fabric (I can see the outline of your underwear) and the butt ruching are not,” said a third.
Many agreed that the fabric ended up looking inappropriate on her frame.
“I agree with others that the butt scrunching is not great. If you could find the same color without it that would be perfect,” said one viewer.
Some felt that the dress suited her but the backless design was too flashy for the occasion.
“I think the silhouette of the dress suits you, yet I think the full backless is slightly immodest,” said one commenter.
“I think the same silhouette dress with a fuller back would be classy and appropriate.
“I’m getting bit of stripper vibe with the color and detailing of the bright dress.”
“I think it is very risqué for a wedding,” added another.
“Eyes should be on the bride.”
