Occasional Digest - a story for you

A teenager has been flown to hospital after falling at a quarry in Perth’s south eastern suburbs, the city’s second cliff rescue in the space of 24 hours.

St John Ambulance received reports a teenage male had fallen from a height at Barrington Quarry in Martin around 1:50pm on Tuesday.

The area near Ellis Brook Valley attracts regular hikers to the Sixty Foot Falls.

A rescue helicopter, special operations crew and ambulances were sent in to assist as the area where he fell is not accessible by foot.

Early paramedic reports indicate he had suffered a range of injuries which are believed to be non-life threatening.

Aerial vision showed multiple paramedics and DFES officers working to transport the teenager away from a cliff-facing edge to clear ground, before he was winched into the rescue helicopter.

He has been airlifted to Royal Perth Hospital.

It followed a separate incident on Monday in which an eight-year-old boy fell 10 metres onto hard rock at Lesmurdie Falls.

Ambulances were sent out to Forrestfield around 3:30pm on Monday afternoon.

Helicopters were then dispatched when on-the-ground emergency services struggled to transport the child safely from the area.

He remains in a stable condition at Perth Children’s Hospital.
