A man accused of murdering William Holdback in Adelaide’s inner north-west last week will remain in custody until October.
Liam Slann, 26, appeared in the Adelaide Magistrates Court via video link on Monday charged with the 21-year-old’s murder, and did not apply for bail.
Emergency services were called to Barrpowell Street at Welland early on Wednesday morning amid reports Mr Holdback was found unresponsive on the road.
Witnesses attempted to give medical assistance to Mr Holdback, but he died at the scene.
The court, filled with Mr Holdback’s family and friends, heard that an investigation was still underway in relation to an alleged co-accused.
The prosecution told the court there was extensive CCTV and DNA that needed to be assessed.
Speaking outside court, Mr Holdback’s mother, Kylee Butterick and stepfather, Paul Alisauskas, said they were saddened by their loss.
“We are just so devastated that we’ve lost the most beautiful boy, William,” Ms Butterick said.
Police said they were looking for a BMW which may be linked to the incident.
Detectives believe the vehicle travelled north on South Road, east along the Port River Expressway, then the full length of Salisbury Highway and onto John Rice Avenue.
Police appealed for dashcam footage from people travelling on those roads between 1:15am and 1:49am on Wednesday morning and have urged anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
The matter will return to court in October.
