The beloved fan favourites vied for the black and silver belt on a stacked UFC 300 card in Las Vegas early this morning.
Holloway’s and Gaethje’s clash was billed by many as ‘The People’s Main Event’ on account of their incredible fan-friendly styles.
And their desert dust-up well and truly delivered, with Holloway scoring an incredible last-second KO with a brutal right hand.
The incredible and viral KO came after Holloway went full BMF mode and demanded Gaethje meet throw down with him in the centre of the octagon for the final seconds of the round.
A wild flurry ensued, with both men trading hard and looping hooks to the delight of fans.
Holloway’s evasiveness saw him dodge the Gaethje storm and put him in prime position to land a beautiful counter right.
And he closed the show with an incredibly vicious right hand that put Gaethje out cold.
The T-Mobile Arena erupted at the historic finish to the BMF title fight.
A fired-up Holloway said in his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan: “First things first, give it up to Gaethje, a real BMF.

Victory over Gaethje saw Holloway become the first fighter ever to experience interim, undisputed and BMF glory.
Its unclear whether the former featherweight champion will stay at 155lbs or return to his division.
But he had a clear message for current champion Ilia Topuria, who was cageside for the incredible finish.
He roared: “There’s an ‘El Matador,’ and he’s running away from me at 145. Tell him to sign the contract. Spain, Hawaii, wherever.”
