Follow these top tips to make a masterpiece really worth toasting.
CORKING IDEA: Cork is a great material for beginner crafters.
Pick up a roll from Hobbycraft, £5.50, sketch out the shape for your coasters using a pencil, then carefully cut them out.
MOULD A MASTERPIECE: Air-drying clay is so easy to use because, as the name implies, there’s no baking required.
Get a 1kg pack of Das air-drying clay at Asda, £4, and have a go at rolling it into circles or squares.
Then get arty by using an old biro to etch in your own design.

Air-drying clay takes approximately 24 hours to dry per 1cm thickness, and you should make sure you place your creations on baking paper so they don’t stick to surfaces.
SEAL APPEAL: Make your design last by painting on a thin layer of sealant which will protect your coaster.
Mod Podge is a quick-drying glue that works for most crafting hobbies. A large pot will cost you £5 at The Range.
Leave it to dry for a few hours, repeat and then your masterpiece is complete.
MAKE IT PRETTY: If you use cork, then attach cut out coloured card, newspaper or scraps of leftover wrapping paper with glue.
For clay coasters, you can add a unique design using acrylic or poster paints once they have dried.
