Rebecca Davis, along with Kieran Forbes and their four-year-old son were sleeping at their home in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, when the break-in occurred.
The masked men were armed with machetes, knuckledusters and axes and demanded cash and jewellery.
Rebecca has a knife held to her throat by one of the robbers, while another smashed Kieran in the face with a weapon which broke his eye socket and left him and the house covered in blood.
The mum, 29, told the Examiner: “I thought they were going to kill us.”
She said: “They hit Kieran with a meat cleaver and a knuckle duster.
“It was the longest eight minutes of my life. The house is covered in blood.”
Rebecca was alerted to the break-in, having heard a bang and going to check on her four-year-old son.
She was confronted two men on the landing.
One was carrying a knife while the other had a machete-type weapon.
Both her and Kieran then retreated back to the bedroom and barricaded the door.
But they then had to open it, fearing the gang would harm their son.
The gang left after the couple handed over watches, a watch winder, a wallet and money.
Rebecca believes the gang had targeted them.
They have improved their home security in the wake of the burglary.
The break-in occurred at around 10.20pm on Good Friday.
West Yorkshire Police are continuing their investigations.
A spokesman for the force said three men had been arrested and bailed pending further enquiries.
