This was the classic character from the eighties that worked in the office of the Jersey Police.

But it’s just been announced by UKTV that fans will get to once again return to the Channel Island as a “re-imagined” series has just been commissioned.

However, it has been confirmed that there will be one major difference from the original hit BBC show.

The 80’s series saw a new storyline in each episode, but the makers of the show have confirmed that just one mystery will lead the series across each instalment.

Each episode of the series will last around an hour and it will be available for viewers for free on the UKTV Play streaming service.

The anticipated new six-parter will also be available on the free-to-air channel, Drama.

Filming for the new show will begin in the summer as producers and crew will shoot in a variety of locations which include the Channel Island of Jersey.

The channel also stated that highly-anticipated casting will be announced in the coming months as crew get to work on the drama.

John Nettles originally made the character famous when the show made its debut in October 1981 alongside the likes of the late Terence Alexander.

Based in the Le Bureau des Étrangers (foreigners’ office) department, the detective mostly dealt with residents outside of Jersey.

He was tasked with keeping unwanted elements away from the picturesque island.

In the series, his character eventually left the police force to become a private investigator.

The announcement comes after it was revealed that a reboot with a new face was “almost a done deal.”

Poldark actor Aidan Turner, Doctor Who star David Tennant and Happy Valley’s James Norton were all previously linked to the project.

It was also reported that a cameo for Nettles in the series, now 80, has also been discussed.
