Olivia Young, a cleaning expert and Product Development Scientist at Astonish, explained that with the arrival of spring, many may be looking to give their windows a good wipe down.

Some, however, may be approaching their upcoming clean with the wrong strategy.

“When that spring sun starts shining, the first thing you might notice is all the streaks and marks on your windows!” she said.

“While this may kickstart a panic clean, just hold off.”

The expert explained that a common mistake she sees is people rushing to rid their windows of streaks as soon as the sun comes out.

“You might think washing windows on a sunny day is the ideal time, as the light makes it easier to spot smears,” she said.

“But in reality, it will probably leave you with more streaks than you started with, as the cleaning solution you use might dry before you’ve had [a] chance to wipe it off.

Instead, she recommended those hoping for sparkling windows clean on a gloomier occasion.

“The best time to clean your windows is on a cloudy or overcast day, which we’re still likely to get throughout spring from time to time,” she said.

“Restoring your windows to be shiny and streak-free is actually incredibly easy and you can do so with a product you are sure to have already.”

Olivia revealed that the key to her dust-less windows was dish soap.

“It’s really effective at cleaning glass due to an agent in it that cuts through grease.”

For those who need something more heavy-duty, she shared a product that worked wonders for her.

“If it’s been a while since you’ve cleaned them, your windows might need some extra care,” she said.

“Simply spray and wipe with a dry paper towel or lint-free cloth.

“This season is also a great time to let some fresh air in – so get those windows open when you can, it’ll do you and your home the world of good!”
