A 12-year-old boy has died after being struck by a car in Hobart’s north.

Tasmania Police said emergency services were called to the scene near Cosgrove High School shortly after 3pm today, after reports of a crash between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Main Road, Glenorchy.

“Despite attempts by emergency responders, the boy sadly passed away at the scene,” police said.

“Our thoughts are with the boy’s family and loved ones at this difficult time.”

Police said investigations into the crash were continuing, with forensics and crash investigators at the scene on Friday afternoon.

“The driver of the vehicle has been taken to the Royal Hobart Hospital for mandatory blood testing,” police said.

Traffic in the area was being diverted, with motorists urged to avoid the area if possible.
