This holiday was created in 2020 by the Animal Law Clinic at the Lewis & Clark Law School in Portland, Oregon. They created this holiday to raise awareness about the importance of aquatic animals to humans.
They are not only essential because they provide food for billions of people around the world, but also because they’re an important part of the planet’s ecosystems. The holiday was taken up pretty quickly by other organizations and people who also felt that the aquatic fauna of the world is important. Nowadays, it’s a holiday celebrated all over the world.
