NRL Sunday blog: Warriors host Knights, battered Sharks take on Raiders

Occasional Digest - a story for you

Round 4 of the NRL season will continue with the Knights travelling to New Zealand to take on the Warriors.

Later, the undermanned Cronulla Sharks face a tricky assignment when they welcome the Raiders to the Shire.

Follow all the news, scores and highlights below in our live blog.

28th minute: KNIGHTS ERROR

Niukore gives away a ruck penalty and the Knights will get their first real shot at the Warriors line but as the Warriors sweep left Best goes for a tip-on that goes over the sideline.

Injury update: Luke Metcalf

The Warriors have confirmed Metcalf won’t be back today.

18th minute: WARRIORS TRY

There’s another one – from the ensuing set, Egan runs straight past Saifiti and Frizell and he has Harris-Tavita in support to score another one. Johnson converts and in the blink of an eye it’s 12-0 Warriors.

16th minute: WARRIORS TRY

After a strong carry from Montoya got the Warriors moving they earn a six again and start getting their attack together – enough so for Johnson to go short to Ford and the backrower crashes over from ten metres out. A classic Warriors try, they play to their backrowers so well. Johnson converts and it’s Warriors 6-0.

14th minute: Warriors penalty

Tuala jams in off his wing and knocks the ball down, the Warriors will get a fresh set on Newcastle’s 30.

Egan ducks out of dummy half and catches Lucas out to earn a six again but the Knights scramble for a few more tackles and manage to turn the Warriors away.

Injury: Luke Metcalf

Frizell hits Metcalf low and hard and the Warriors five-eighth stays down. He’s pretty shaken up and is being carried off by the Warriors trainers. Harris-Tavita will come on at five-eighth.

4th minute: Warriors no try

Capewell pulls of a steal around his own 40 to give the Warriors the first attacking chance of the day. Johnson puts up a kick on the last, Berry comes down with it and puts it down but the referee sends it up no try, looks like he might have knocked it on into a Knight and that’s how they rule. Newcastle will work it out.

KICK-OFF

Knights kick us off, running right to left.

When last they met

To kill the final few minutes before kick off, here’s all the action from the last time these two locked horns back in last year’s finals. Big win for the Warriors, looked like it was off the hook.

Final teams

As reported earlier this week, Dane Gagai is out with Dylan Lucas to replace him in the centres for the Knights.

For the Warriors, Dylan Walker and Freddy Lussick are out with Jazz Tevaga and Chanel Harris-Tavita coming in on the bench.
