DISAPPEARING into a great book is the perfect way to unwind over the bank holiday.

We’re lucky to have libraries where we can go to borrow and read books for free. But do they open over Good Friday and Easter Sunday?

Are libraries open on Good Friday and Easter Sunday 2024?

Libraries are traditionally open from Monday to Saturday every week.

However, most libraries close on Sundays and public holidays, meaning their doors will be shut over Good Friday and Easter Sunday.

Indeed, some councils have already put notices online saying all libraries will be shut on Friday, March 29 and Sunday, March 31.

It’s advisable to check with the particular library you are interested in or visit their official website for accurate and up-to-date information on their holiday schedules.

Many libraries announce any changes to their regular hours well in advance of holidays, so you can plan accordingly.

You can check your local library opening times by entering your postcode into the government website.

If you wish to renew a borrowed book, you can typically do so online provided you are registered with the library.

If your branch is closed, you can probably access their range of e-books, audiobooks, and more online or through an app.

Just check your library’s website for details.

Most libraries will be closed for four days from March 29 to April 1.

However, some will open as normal but will close at an earlier time than usual.

The London Library, the oldest library in London, will be closed from March 29 to April 1.

The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea will close their library on Good Friday, Easter Sunday, and bank holiday Monday.

It will resume back to its normal opening hours after this up until April 2.

For university students, campus libraries may operate slightly varied opening times during the bank holiday.

The University of London’s library will be closed from Friday, March 29 December 23 to Monday, April 1.

The University of Manchester‘s main and Stopford libraries will also be shut from March 29 December 23 to Monday, April 1.

They will return to normal opening times on April 2.

Bank Holiday opening times for other universities throughout the UK can be found on their websites.
