Occasional Digest - a story for you

A GROOM-TO-BE has been slammed for asking strangers for money to pay for his honeymoon.

The man posted his fundraiser as an anonymous Instagram reel, so that his new bride would not know that it was him.

The post read: “Posting every day until my wedding in September to see how many people will donate for a surprise honeymoon.

“The more we raise the better the surprise will be for my new wife”.

In the caption to the reel, the man had then included the details for his Cash App.

One person found the reel and shared it on Reddit.

They said: “Saw this gem as I was scrolling through my Instagram reels.

“This person created a separate Instagram account with no personal information on it asking strangers to donate to his honeymoon.

“It’s one thing to ask close people you know, or ask for money for your honeymoon in lieu of a gift.

“But strangers that aren’t even invited?”

The post was flooded with replies from Reddit users, who were shocked by the fundraiser.

One person said: “I’d be so embarrassed if my partner did this.

I found the dream wedding guest dress for £30 – I love the pattern, but people say it would upstage the bride

“Just go to where you can afford.”

Another person said: “It’s so audacious that I almost respect it.”

A third person remarked: “I just can’t believe the audacity.

“These people need to step away from their entitlement podium and plan an event that is within their budget—even if that means having cupcakes and fruit punch in the church’s social room.”

A fourth person added: “My friend got married a few years ago.

“She put her bank details on the save the dates, on the invites and, I kid you not, on the order or service booklet so that even though you were sat down, minutes away from watching her walk down the aisle, you could still give her money.

“She was terribly, terribly stingy.”
