Tensions over things like a shared drive can spark friction but one person has devised a novel way to settle the matter without any fuss or the need to bring in heavy-handed lawyers who cost an arm and a leg.
Writing on a Reddit thread about housing, one homeowner said: “I have a drive that’s tarmac with the neighbours 2 drives they share, I just put up a line of large terracotta plant pots with flowers in them that marks the boundary.
“Passive aggressive but they got the hint. And it looks pretty.”
Ikea is currently selling a 12cm terracotta plant pot, along with the saucer for just £2.50.
Plus, with any plants in bloom, it will brighten up the neighbourhood with a splash of colour.
In the same thread, another person suggested: “Get yourself some demarcation studs marking the line, discreetly but clearly, (one every 12 inches).”
Another person added: “I think a chain is the answer here. A fence would be too unsightly, and further restrict parking because of the inability to open a car door if you’re close to it (whereas a chain would flex).
“Also, a chain is more of a “here’s your side, here’s my side” in a friendly way. A fence of any sort is more of a **** off and stay on your side.”
While a third wrote: “Best solution all round may be to offer to sell an extra meter of driveway to the new buyer.
“Off road parking can add a decent amount to a property, so they would likely go for it to avoid dispute. Seems best for everyone.”
It comes after a man who was fed up with a neighbour who continually parked in front of his home has now solved the problem after he “cracked the code.”
Elsewhere, a motorist has alleged they couldn’t access their private driveway – saying the issue has gone on for seven years.
While earlier this month, a TikTok user served a vengeful neighbour the most satisfying justice after they blocked their driveway out of spite.
