Maico explained that his sibling hasn’t taken off the plastic – meant to temporarily protect the carpet while it’s being laid – since she bought the house… five years ago.
He took to TikTok to share a video of the setup in the front room, standing on the plastic with his bare feet to show the noise it made.
“When your sister bought a house five years ago and still hasn’t taken off the carpet protective layer,” he wrote over the top.
Understandably, the comments section on the video was immediately filled with questions about the woman’s decision to leave the plastic on.
“How does she even clean that?” one asked.
“Mops the protective layer & vacuums what’s exposed of the carpet,” Macio replied.
And others insisted that leaving the plastic on is inviting mould into the home.
“My cousin did this and ended up growing mould under her carpets,” one wrote.
“The carpet can mould, especially if she’s mopping the top,” another added.
“The mould buildup will be crazy,” a third commented.
“Keeps moisture in. May cause mould,” someone else commented.
“That’ll mould. Moisture sucks into carpet then got nowhere to go,” another said.
To which Macio responded: “It’s mould free!”
“Ew can you imagine the trapped moisture under there?” someone else said.
“My mum did that with her steps and when she finally took it off it left a weird sticky residue on it,” another warned.
“I did this and it ruined my carpet, made it all flat,” someone else said.
While another admitted: “Expensive as it is, I’d do the same dang thing!!”
To which Macio replied: “She’s thinking about doing the whole house!”
Macio also shared another video of his sister taking the protective layer off, as she showed that there was no mould, or excess moisture, underneath the plastic.
