Redditor LoomaHome shared the interior design tips and tricks in a post.

Many feel they’ve put in the blood, sweat, and tears to make their home an oasis but to no avail.

“You can’t put a finger on it, though. Something still feels ‘off’ about your space,” they said.

“You might be wondering, ‘Why does my room still look boring and uninviting?'”

“Turns out, there are some small but important decorating rules you can follow to go from blasé to comfortable and stylish.”

The expert explained that although a decorator can have all the right pieces, they can still fumble the execution.

Looma urged home enthusiasts to avoid “common decorating snafus,” like opting for cheap fabrics.

“This is one of the biggest issues I see. You have all the right pieces, but you weren’t clear on how to utilize them,” they said.

“Cheap fabric for curtains and pillows, black furniture, plastic trinkets, etc. They’re saving you money, and if you’re on a budget or furnishing your own space for the first time, they’re likely your best bet,” they said.

For those who have a larger budget to work with, picking high-quality fabrics can easily take a room “from ‘meh to wow.'”

“But if you’re ready for an upgrade and wondering why your space still looks bad, check the quality of your materials for decorating elements and furniture,” they said.

“For example, changing your curtains from a synthetic material to say, a linen fabric would probably [up] 10x your room’s look.”

Positioning for curtains and photos is another critical choice that can make or break how pulled together a room looks.

“Good curtains can warm up a space, but if they’re hung incorrectly, they can look like a mess,” they said.

The expert recommended a quick video tutorial to make sure curtains are not placed too high or too low.

Likewise, the positioning of photos can take away from a room’s cohesiveness.

A foolproof trick made sure pictures were always displayed correctly.

“The secret to hanging your pictures properly, every time? Hang them at 57 inches on center,” they said.

To prevent posters from looking overly childish, a simple buy elevated the prints.

“Framing them is always a great choice. It might be expensive, but it will make a dramatic change to your room’s feel and overall aesthetic,” they said.

“Plus, no jerks can give you shade about holding onto your ‘kid posters,’ because now it looks awesome.”
