The 26-year-old, who found fame on the reality show alongside his family, surprised followers as he revealed he had been selected as Labour’s parliamentary candidate for Hertsmere.
He now has a mammoth task ahead of him as he tries to win the seat which is currently held by Deputy PM, Oliver Dowden.
Tory MP Oliver won his seat in 2019 with a 16,951 majority.
Sharing his exciting news with fans, Josh posted: “I’m thrilled and honoured to have been selected as Labour ’s parliamentary candidate for Hertsmere.
“Thank you so much to local members for your support – I won’t let you down. The work to unseat the Deputy Prime Minister starts now!”
Josh decided to swap the sofa for a career in politics back in 2017, when he took on an apprenticeship at No.10.
He worked alongside then Prime Minister Theresa May and her cabinet.
Josh then joined the Civil Service but left in 2019 to join the cross-party think tank and research outfit Demos.
In 2022, he revealed ambitions to be elected in Edgwarebury, north west London, where he grew up alongside his very famous family, but he narrowly missed out on a seat.
The Tapper family – parents Nikki and Jonathan and children Josh and Amy – appeared on the show since it started back in 2013.
Josh was just 15 at the time and said of his experience on the show: “I spent the next five years living that life while also trying to live a normal life.
“But I was the guy who was on TV. My days were long as we were filming the scenes in addition to school.”
In 2018, Amy shocked fans when she announced she was leaving to try and find love on Celebs Go Dating.
